Making brilliant new music in the metal/rock genere out of the midwest of Cincinnati Ohio is LOWA. They traveled up the highway to Toledo Ohio on May 9, 2008 to unleash their hard driving, in your face metal music on the fans at Club BiJou. On The Down with LOWA features Jason VieBrooks (ex-Heathen/Grip Inc) on guitar, Steve Jacobs (ex-Forbidden/ManMadeGod/Testament) on drums and Steve Tucker (ex-Morbid Angel) on vocals. For this show on bass was Bobby Gaskins. LOWA performed a hard rockin' sheer metal set of songs which included "Brother" which has an intro flavour to the tune of Jimi Hendrix, and you must have a song about drinking and whores. On "Drunk Again" Steve Tucker's vocals takes out alot of frustration and anger with the lyrics but it's all passionate and "Whore" about females who think they know these men but have no freaking clue about who these men really are, and self titled song called "Lowa" which you just have to feel it and it brings it and you know it and it's coming: "...conceided and bi-polar-can't help but stare at me..."! All these songs and more can be previewed on the band's myspace page located www.myspace.com/onthedownlowa which also includes lots of photos and tour dates. And speaking of tour dates, LOWA is just starting to take to the road this summer including June 7 at ROCBAR in CLEVELAND, June 12 at PEABODY'S in CLEVELAND in support with Randy Blythe's (Lamb Of God) side project HALO OF LOCUSTS, returning possibly to CLUB BIJOU the end of July for their Metal Fest Weekend, August 16 at LIGHTHOUSE for a TESTAMENT After Party show and heading to Indy on Septemner 26 for the Indianapolis Metal Fest. Visit their site often for more tour updates!!
When long time good friends come together of this high standard of musicianship and professionalism you can always expect a great show. Vocals are strong and clear and sang with passion from the gut making the lyrics able for the fans to sing along to, guitar licks have the technical leads that shreds and rhythm with the catchy hooks, drums that are consistant and hard driving with great blend of the use of the symbols, bass lines that are deep, vibrating and well...lowa! All this makes for songs that stay in your head long after the show ends but leaves you still wanting more!! Make sure you don't miss this band when they come to your city! So scroll down and check out my live~action photos of LOWA at Club Bijou. A special thanks goes out to Greg McKamey (Thunderbolt Productions here in Cincinnati) for the great sound engineering job he always does for LOWA and the house (Club BiJou) lighting tech Adam for a great light show that went well with the music, club manager Ollie for taking such good care of the band and most of all...to the fans in Toldeo who always make the trip fun. Enjoy!
